Merchandiser, Oils

Position Summary

Reporting to the Sr. Manager – Bulk Oils, the Edible Oils Merchandiser will be responsible for conducting commodity edible oil merchandising activities and responsible for coordination of rail and truck logistics. This position can be done fully remote with preferred proximity to St. Louis. Candidate(s) will be expected to train the first 2-3 weeks in person at Benson Hill headquarters prior to being fully remote.

You Will:

  • Market edible oils to meet commercial/operational plans at manufacturing sites
  • Build and maintain a customer base of refiners, feed mills, and food customers
  • Lead customer contract administration
  • Coordinate multi-commodity shipping logistics, including monitoring inventory levels
  • Develop understanding of all aspect of oilseed processing
  • Record sales and report timely and accurately to contract management / accounting teams
  • Coordinate daily hedging activity and actively communicate market data

You Have:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in edible oil sales or oilseed merchandising
  • Excellent negotiation and communications skills.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics, agricultural business, sales & marketing or a related field
  • Experience in using complete Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc)
  • Working knowledge of cash commodity trading and the CBOT
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision and accomplish commercial objectives in a timely and effective manner

Commodities Risk Manager – Oilseeds, Wheat/Flour, and Grains

Job Description

The Commodities Risk Manager will be responsible for developing and executing price risk management strategies for plant/nut-based oilseeds, edible beans, wheat/flour, corn, and oats at Whole Foods Market (WFM). This team member will be a trusted advisor to the Sourcing and Merchant teams around commodities. These actions must uphold the Quality Standards of Whole Foods Market and further the Company’s Purpose to Nourish People and the Planet. The position is located at Whole Foods Market, global operations, Austin, Texas.

Responsibilities:

  • Team member is to support and collaborate with WFM sourcing and merchants’ teams to provide guidance, strategic insight, and assist in the development of effective sourcing and procurement strategies to maximize commodity price risk avoidance and protect against price volatility where applicable
  • Lead efforts to analyze market trends and conditions that affect suppliers, cost of goods, raw materials, pricing, and the resulting impact on the business and the supply chain
  • Create forecast and outlook reports and serve as a trusted advisor to support WFM leadership, sourcing, and category teams in a manner that educates and supports the team needs
  • Create, implement, and manage forward contract strategies where applicable to reduce commodity price risk

  • Responsible for effective commodity inventory management against contracts
  • Lead and assist the sourcing team and key business stakeholder efforts to align budgeting, forecasting, and procurement strategies with underlying commodities
  • Lead collaborative efforts with the sourcing team to add commodity knowledge to RFPs and develop enhanced procurement strategies and formula price arrangements
  • Develop and present communications geared to the audience and formatted to influence without authority
  • Strong negotiation and collaboration skills to establish and maintain internal and external strategic partnerships resulting in long term win-win-win relationships
  • Demonstrate leadership competency skills through strong business acumen, influencing stakeholder constituents, and change management actions
  • Duties will also include developmental projects internally or external to the department
  • As a commodity team member, it is expected that you will collaborate and train fellow team members when needed
  • Support executive leader in department strategy creation and implementation

POSITION SUMMARY
